Bill Turner’s Successful Round 1

Stanthorpe State High School Bill Turner Cup Girls Team.

The Bill Turner Cup/Trophy Soccer round robin day was played at Stanthorpe C.F White oval. Girls and boys teams from Warwick State High School, Warwick Assumptions, Stanthorpe St Josephs and Stanthorpe State High School competed for a spot in the Regional Semi Finals.

In the boys draw the Stanthorpe State High School team played their first game with confidence, outplaying the opposition in most areas. They worked well together combining many quick passes to finally win the game 6-0. However, in their second game, Stanthorpe found themselves one goal down at half time due to the opposition's pressure and control of the mid field. To Stanthorpe's credit the team rallied and equalised early in the second half, the final score being 1-1. In their final game Stanthorpe was far too strong winning 3-0.

In the girls draw the Stanthorpe State High School team dominated their first game against Warwick Assumption and came away with a 10-0 win. The second game of the day against St Joseph’s had them working a lot harder, however a very strong performance from the midfield and defensive line saw this team walk away with a 3-0 win. Overall a very impressive from the girls.

As a result of the very successful day, both the Stanthorpe State High School girls and boys teams will progress onto the semi-finals to be held in Stanthorpe. The boys will play Harristown State High School on the May 18 and the girls will play St Ursula’s on the May 25.
