Hospitality and Tourism excursion

Strawberry fields

Visitors often ask where some great places to visit are when they holiday in Stanthorpe. As tourism ambassadors for the district, the Year 11 and 12 Tourism and Hospitality students have to know the answers. So to gather this information they headed out for the day. First stop was Strawberry Fields. Here they learnt about the operation of an agri-tourism business – learning everything from planting, disease prevention, picking, packing and marketing. Of course they picked their own punnet of strawberries to take home too! Next stop was a nano brewery – Brass Monkey Brew House. Owner Ernie Butler showed them around his establishment. Even though they couldn’t taste his brews, they could sample the yummy chocolate cake infused with Guinness. Last stop on the trip was Kominos Wines. Tony and Mary Comino explained the wine making process and how they conduct wine tastings with visitors. They also explained how and why they run their famous Kefi event as well as their other functions. Students commented on how well they were greeted at each of the tourism establishments and how much visitors to the region would enjoy visiting them as well. Thanks must go to all the owners for showing us out the back and letting us learn a little about their businesses.
