Netball success

The students representing the school were Gabbie Bell, Emily Smith, Bridie Marcus, Zoe Howard, Alicia Paech, Nikita Bailey-Young, Allegra Daveson, Brooke O'Brien, Taryn Hines and Lauren Coelli

On Sunday, 26th of February 10 students from years 7, 8 and 9 competed in the Laura Geitz netball competition in Toowoomba. Many factors were against the girls going into the competition; only one week of training, an early start, a two hour drive and nerves about competing against schools with a high netball reputation. However, the Stanthorpe Highlanders progressed through the pool games undefeated, putting the girls into the grand final ranked first. A hard fought game ended with the Highlanders being defeated by Dalby by only 4 points. Coming second in this division is a massive achievement. Throughout the day the girls played high quality netball at pace and with precision. Both attack and defence ends of the court were firing.

Coach Miss Krosch is proud of the team’s achievements. “The older girls of the team showed amazing leadership qualities; encouraging and supporting our team ‘rookies’ both on and off the court. Our ‘veterans’ played some spectacular netball, setting the bar high for the ‘rookies’. Our younger girls had their eyes opened to the world of school netball, and the high standard of competition. Most importantly the team played with respect, sportsmanship (or should I say “sportswomenship”), doing the school and wider community proud. The team would also like to thank our umpire for the day Taylah Marino.”
