Opera in the Vineyard

Students (in red shirts) collecting for Polio Plus.

This year the Stanthorpe Rotary Club’s Opera in the Vineyard celebrated it’s 25th year. Stanthorpe State High School was invited to assist their event fundraising activities with the California Wine Tour students putting together and selling cheeseboards to Opera guests. They also sold raffle tickets with the lucky winners taking home gorgeous local hamper baskets. The Interact Club students played a major role post interval when the Rotary Club asked everyone to put their hand in their pocket and give their loose change to assist in the eradication of Polio. Year 12 student Nik Charlton was invited to the stage to talk about growing up with a father who was affected by polio. He then invited his dad Paul Charlton to the stage and together they asked everyone to help them rid the world of polio. While there was not a dry eye in the house, students donned Polio Plus t-shirts and wandered the crowd with collection buckets which ended up filled to the brim. Stephen Tancred, President, thanked the high school for their support and congratulated the students on their excellent assistance and support. Thanks goes to the Rotary Club of Stanthorpe for the opportunity for our students to give back to the community and help raise money for very worthwhile causes.
