Physics Balloon Racers

Physics students
The winning team of Braden Carmody and Zach Saezza

The new program for Year 10 Physics saw the students design, construct and then race their vehicle down the Raceway. Eligible vehicles had to be capable of travelling 2m when powered by a maximum of two balloons. Students chose suitable materials – rectangles of cardboard or foam or cardboard tubes for the racer body; and wheels of milk bottle or take-away lids - and were supplied with essentials such as balloons, straws, wooden skewers and strong tape. The winners were Braden Carmody and Zach Saezza with their vehicle travelling the longest distance of 5.08m. The vehicle from team of Hamish Williamson, Aarron Hindley and Kahlia Williamson travelled 3.27m earning them second place.
