Police advice about cars

Stanthorpe Police Officer Sergeant Daniel O’Dea gave up some of his busy schedule last week to discuss all aspects of cars and the law with the Year 11 Prevocational Maths students. The unit topic on Buying a Car became an animated discussion on all things cars from what to consider when buying a car to the laws around modification, speeding, drinking and driving and driver safety. The lessons learnt were not just maths lessons – they were life lessons. The students were clearly interested in the points that Sergeant O’Dea made and were heard to make comments like “Well, I’m not going to put that mod on my car – I don’t want to be labelled a hoon” and “Why would any driver be so stupid!” when they were told stories linked to speeding and drink/driving. Thank you to Sergeant O’Dea for having such an honest, frank and influential discussion with the students.
