Rock & Water Program

Rock and water

Term 3 has seen a number of our Junior Secondary School students start Rock & Water workshops.  Designed to boost young people’s self-confidence, communication and manage big emotions, the program includes lots of physical activity and fun. “The Rock & Water program connects really well with teenagers” commented Darryl Peters (School Chaplain and Rock & Water Coach). “We use physical challenges and games that help us to teach big ideas, and then talk about how they can apply to real life.” The program covers all sorts of topics, such as disempowering bullies, managing anger, de-escalating conflict and learning assertiveness. “These are valuable skills for our young people to learn for the future and can decrease risk factors that can lead to family violence. Teaching them how to manage anger and frustration and to express it in healthy ways is key.” The workshops have been a big hit so far with the students. “It helps me to feel more confident and calm at school,” stated a year 8 student, “I really like learning the self-defence stuff too”.
