SeaWorld HOTEL school experience a positive one!

Last week 26 Year 11 and 12 students from Stanthorpe State High School participated in the SeaWorld HOTEL school program. Students are currently studying one or both of either Certificate II in Hospitality or Certificate II in Tourism. SeaWorld HOTEL school offers our students an excellent opportunity to see how a large resort operates and all the job possibilities the Tourism and Hospitality industries offer. Thursday and Friday saw the students join the staff at the SeaWorld Resort and participate in working rotations where they learnt what each department does by getting their hands dirty. They helped in the kitchen with meal preparation, cleaned dishes, cleared tables, provided room service, refreshed mini bars, took bags to rooms, assisted maintenance with scheduled water park cleaning and much more. Students loved the fact the staff were so friendly and willing to show them what they do in their job. Staff are encouraged to report student ‘Stars’ and the ones with the most reports were awarded special certificates. Gypsy and Daniel were noticed by staff for asking excellent questions, their willingness to have a go at anything and their good eye contact when staff were talking to them. Great job to all students who were nominated! During the HOTEL school 3 day experience students visited SeaWorld Theme Park and looked at how it operates as a tourism experience and destination. Students also donned their cowboy hats and dined at Outback Spectacular. This was an amazing chance to see hospitality at its very best from how they dealt with long queues, ticketing, serving large numbers of people all at once and providing an entertaining 2 hour show – all at the same time. Now students will return to the classroom to complete other elements of various competencies towards their Certificates.
