Shiwa 2016

Shiwa 2016
Enjoying apples at Sutton's!
Stanthorpe State High School hosted the annual exchange of students from Shiwa, Stanthorpe’s sister city in Japan, with 10 students and 2 teachers joining us for an action-packed five days. Students made and painted boomerangs (thanks Mr Bushby and Mr Smith), were treated to a didgeridoo demonstration (thanks Mr Hall) and joined in with classes right across the school (thanks to all teachers).Gary Hurtz transfixed students with the precision and skill of his award winning sheep dogs while Suttons and the QCWT team treated them to fantastic and tasty true-Aussie dining experiences. The 9B English class were joined by the visitors. Both Japanese and Shiwa students were asked to design a new National flag. The lesson was a fusion of many different symbols including boxing kangaroos, cherry blossoms, boomerangs and Mount Fuji. Thanks goes to the amazing families of Stanthorpe High students who throw their homes open to our international guests and make them feel part of the family. A great time was had by all.
