36 Hospitality and Tourism students from Years 11 & 12 had the chance to experience how a large resort complex operated when they attended the SeaWorld Resort HOTEL school from Wednesday 20th to Friday 22nd May. Wednesday was the Tourism focused day where they visited the SeaWorld theme park and learnt how it operated, what their target market was and how they promoted themselves both in the domestic and international markets. Thursday and Friday were devoted to Hospitality where students actually worked in many of the departments at the SeaWorld Resort. Departments included housekeeping, restaurant, kitchen, room service, mini bar, concierge, front office, sales and marketing, bar, engineering, stewarding, HR and cleaning. Students wore SeaWorld Resort uniforms and were often ‘mistaken’ for staff when general customers would ask them directions. At the closing ceremony, students were presented with certificates and student stars were recognised. These included Shay Black and Matthew Williamson with Georgi-Lin Wogandt being awarded the golden star for outstanding participation, effort and enthusiasm. Overall HOTEL school gave the students an insight into the Hospitality industry, a small glimpse, to help them decide if the industry is one they would like to pursue as a career.
