Year 7s settle in

year 7s

Year 7 students checking out the books in the Resource Centre.

The first few weeks have just flown by and we are now into Week 4 of the term. The Year 7 students are settling in very well and have already joined in lots of events. They have participated in swimming trials, attended their very first School Leaders Investiture ceremony and invited their parents to join them for the Junior Secondary Parent/Teacher catch up last week. Many have joined our lunchtime clubs including cattle club, bee club and our new debating club. It has not only been the Year 7s that have auditioned to participate in the new Dance extension club, many students of all year levels donned their dance attire and showed their style and grace. Year 7 students have also begun their classes in earnest, learning more about the 5 core subjects including Maths, English, Science, HPE and Humanities. They have commenced their elective rotations which last one term each. These include Digital Technologies, Music, Art and Drama. Friday will see the whole school attend the swimming carnival and the new students, from all year levels, will get to see the house captains in full costumes encouraging everyone to have a swim and earn points for their house. There are 25 metre events in every stroke so even if students are not a great swimmers, they can earn a point for your house – and keep cool at the same time! Welcome to Stanthorpe State High School Year 7 students!
