Stanthorpe State High School is a school of some 550 students from years 7-12 situated in Stanthorpe, on the Granite Belt.
The school has always combined a respect for tradition with innovation and community involvement. The house teams, named after local identities Withers, Wright, Langan and Finch and the school motto, Altiora Petentes (striving for higher things) have been with the school since 1962 and represent its traditions.
The school has a well developed Student Code of Conduct, which has clearly defined expectations and consequences. The plan is based on our REP values: Respectful, Engaged and Prepared, which in positively reinforced by our REP Reward Program.
The school has a strong reputation for progressive programs and is a leader in a variety of fields, including academic pursuits, vocational education, student support and agriculture.
Complementing the comprehensive academic program, the school offers a rich and diverse array of extra-curricular programs, including a strong emphasis on activities that develop student leadership.
The local community
The Granite Belt is predominantly a farming community with a population of approximately 11,000. In recent years there has been significant advancement in the wine and tourism industries. The nature of primary industry is predominantly horticulture – deciduous fruit and vegetables, with pastoral industries making up a smaller part.
The area has a low socio-economic index by Queensland standards. In comparison with larger centres there are few support services available locally.
