Through the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR), the Trade Training Centres in Schools Program is providing $2.5 billion over 10 years from 2008 to schools across Australia. The Granite Belt & Border College of Trades will commence operations from the start of the 2012 school year.
The program allows secondary students to access vocational education and training through the GBBCT to give them a broader range of options so as to improve year 12 retention rates and enhance pathways into vocational careers. The college of trades are also helping to address national skills shortages in traditional trades and emerging industries.
Four main courses are offered to students through the TTC:
Certificate II in Furniture Making (embedding Certificate I in Furnishing)
Certificate I in Construction
Certificate II in Engineering Pathways (embedding Certificate I in Engineering)
Certificate I in Automotive

Through our highly regarded Work Education Program, Stanthorpe State High School has well established links with local businesses and we believe the GBBCT programs is serving to enhance and deepen these ties.
