Stanthorpe State High School has offered the sport of rowing to its students since 2022.  Commencing with a squad of five students, the program now has fifteen rowers from Year 8 to Year 12. The squad trains out of Storm King Boat Club on Storm King Dam on Wednesday and Friday afternoons in Terms 4, 1 and 2. In Term 2, Stanthorpe Highlanders compete in the South Queensland Regatta Conference in a series of four regattas at Wyaralong Dam (Beaudesert) against schools from Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, culminating in the Trophy Regatta in early June.

Rowing is a challenging sport which requires coordination, fitness and timing to propel a boat over race distances from 1000 to 2000m. Students need to show commitment, focus and effort to refine their skills and develop their physical capacity. Recruitment for new participants takes place during Term 4, requiring regular attendance at training sessions and willingness to improve and support others.
